IFA concludes its ‘Year of the Benchmark’, announces 2024 Industry Stewardship Champions

The International Fertilizer Association (IFA) has recently concluded the first Year of the Benchmark since the inception of IFA’s annual Industry Stewardship Champions program in 2019.

The Year of the Benchmark is so-called because reporting on all three of IFA’s independently managed Benchmarks for Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) coincided in the same year. These benchmarks are the annual Safety Performance benchmark, the biennial Environmental Performance benchmark, and the triennial Energy Efficiency and CO₂ Emissions benchmark.

Last occurring in 2018, this Year of the Benchmark was another successful edition with 66 fertilizer companies from 42 countries* participating around the world. These companies were able to measure, compare, and ultimately improve their individual SHE performance, embodying a collective effort to raise sustainability standards across the industry.

Since 2019, IFA has also recognized members who have shown exceptional commitment to SHE through the Industry Stewardship Champions (ISC) program. The ISC label is awarded to fertilizer companies that have participated in all of IFA’s most recent benchmarks and that hold either the independently audited IFA Protect & Sustain certification (the de facto product stewardship standard for fertilizer companies) or related ISO, OHSAS, and Responsible Care certifications.

A preview of ISC winners was presented at IFA’s 2024 Strategic Forum in Madrid, Spain, in November. Today, IFA is pleased to announce the official ISC 2024 cohort, comprising the 30 fertilizer companies from 23 countries** which represent the global best-in-class for SHE practices.
