A new YouGov survey commissioned by the International Fertilizer Association (IFA) reveals significant public uncertainty about the role of mineral fertilizers in global food security. While most Americans understand that fertilizers provide essential nutrients for crop growth, only 20% know that around half of global food production depends on mineral fertilizers. The research also highlights limited awareness of how fertilizers help increase agricultural productivity, reduce pressure on farmland, and support sustainable food systems. These findings support the launch of IFA’s #FoodStartsHere campaign, which aims to improve understanding of the essential contribution of mineral fertilizers to food production, food security, sustainable agriculture, and feeding a growing global population.
