Sulvaris Inc. announced as the winner of the inaugural IFA Science Innovation Award

Paris, France and London, UK, March 18, 2025

The International Fertilizer Association (IFA) today announced that Mr. Satish Iyer of Sulvaris Inc. has won the first edition of the IFA Science Innovation Award, for his contribution to the development of proprietary Micronized Sulphur Technology (MST®) to address widespread sulphur deficiencies in cropping systems and optimization of sulphur use efficiency.

The IFA Science Innovation Award was established to celebrate groundbreaking advancements in the implementation of science to promote sustainable agriculture and transformative solutions. The prize category for 2025 was ‘Novel Fertilizers’, and the 22 applicants were evaluated by a panel of experts from corporate venture capital units, academia, and the IFA Secretariat as the ‘best in class’ across three criteria: novelty, sustainability and scalability, and practical implementation.

“I’m very thankful to IFA for instituting this award. It encourages innovation and entrepreneurship in the fertilizer industry, and has recognized our technology at Sulvaris, which effectively addresses the growing global sulphur demand and provides value across the entire agriculture value chain,”

said Satish Iyer.

President and CEO of Sulvaris, Jake Underwood, commented,

“We value our partnership with IFA and the industry community, which is dedicated to a similar mission in creating innovative technologies to provide solutions for greater sustainability in our industry. Congratulations to Satish and all the employees at Sulvaris during their past and current tenure who’ve been a part of developing both our MST® and CCT® technologies.”

CEO and Director General of IFA, Alzbeta Klein, said:

“I am delighted to congratulate Satish Iyer and the Sulvaris team on winning the first IFA Science Innovation Award. We have had excellent engagement from the innovation community in this inaugural award, with a wide variety of entries from companies and individuals presenting fertilizer technologies that enhance nutrient use efficiency, sustainability, and agricultural productivity. Sulvaris and Mr. Iyer’s nomination stood out to our judging panel because of their ability to find a robust technological solution to both sulphur deficits and losses in agricultural systems, leveraging scientific expertise with accompanying evidence of implementation and impact. I wish them every success in the future as they continue to develop this and other innovative plant nutrition solutions.”

The IFA Science Innovation Award winner will receive €10,000 along with an invitation to present their solution during the Novel Fertilizers session of the IFA Cultivating Tomorrow 2025 Conference in Barcelona, Spain on 1-3 April.
