Carbon Pricing and Soil Carbon Projects – State of Play and Future Prospects

As of 2019, some 20% of global GHG emissions were covered by a carbon tax or an emissions trading scheme. While such carbon pricing schemes generally exclude the agricultural sector, options exist to provide offsets from soil carbon projects. Fertilizer industry players may clearly be impacted by carbon pricing schemes, and soil carbon sequestration programs are also relevant to the industry, given the importance of fertilizer management within such programs.
