Dr Deli Chen

Dr. Deli Chen is a Professor at the University of Melbourne, Australia, and an internationally recognised expert in nitrogen fertiliser use, efficiency, and environmental impacts. His research has focused on understanding nitrogen losses from agricultural systems and developing mitigation strategies to improve nutrient efficiency while reducing pollution.

Over several decades, he has led and contributed to extensive research across Australia, China, and Southeast Asia, combining field measurements and modelling to quantify nitrogen losses and propose practical solutions for agriculture. His work has played a key role in advancing enhanced efficiency fertilisers, supported by long standing collaboration with industry partners.

More recently, Dr. Deli Chen led the establishment of a major ARC Research Hub for Smart Fertilisers, bringing together multidisciplinary researchers and industry collaborators to develop innovative technologies, including new classes of nitrification inhibitors and engineered fertiliser coatings.
