Green Leaf Award
2026 IFA GREEN LEAF AWARD
For Excellence in Safety, Health and Environment in Fertilizer Production
Excellence in safety, health, and environment (SHE) is a top priority for the fertilizer industry. Outstanding SHE performance within the IFA membership is globally recognized and celebrated. Since 2009, IFA has granted the Green Leaf Award every two years to deserving member companies demonstrating leadership in SHE.
Following the positive reception of previous editions, the 2026 Green Leaf Award will again be presented to two production site categories: one award for the best nitrogen producer, and one award for the best phosphate or potash producer.
IFA invites candidate production plants or material handling units from its membership to submit an application demonstrating how the implementation of a management system, specific project, innovation, or activity has improved the facility’s overall performance in safety, health, and environment.
Applicants undergo an extensive evaluation of performance indicators by an independent panel of SHE experts. IFA runs the Green Leaf Award every two years, with previous editions receiving strong participation from its members, including 27 eligible applications for the 2024 Award.
2026 Winners
The winners of the 2026 Green Leaf Award will be announced at IFA’s Annual Conference in Abu Dhabi in May 2026 and will receive their awards from the Chair of IFA at the opening of the Annual General Meeting.
Eligibility, Judging and Application Procedure
Applications must be submitted to IFA by 15 February 2026.

Judging
An independent panel of SHE professionals will review all applications and rank candidates according to a set of evaluation criteria. The applicant’s production site will be evaluated based on a specific project, innovation, activity, or contribution that improved the overall performance in the area of safety, health and environment. Preference will be given to those sites that have demonstrated significant innovation and/or improvement in SHE by minimizing harm, implementing leading indicators, enhancing production efficiency, and improving/enhancing environmental sustainability and occupational health – and that have a strong record of excellence in SHE performance. Additional points will be awarded to participating companies :
- certified at the IFA Product Steward or IFA Product Steward Excellence levels under the Protect & Sustain certification program;
- regularly participating in IFA’s Safety Performance, Environmental Performance and Energy Efficiency & CO2 Emissions (for ammonia producers only) benchmarks.
The winners will be notified by IFA individually, by mid-late March 2026.
