Achim Dobermann continues his discussion with his guests on soil health and why we need healthy soil for a healthy planet and environment.

About the guest speakers

Margaret‘s first degree was in Geography and Geology, followed by a PhD in soil science. Her research focused on the multivariate and geostatistical analysis of soil data, pollen counts, forestry, radon emissions, remotely sensed imagery, precision agriculture and the incidence of childhood cancer. Specific interests were in sample design for spatial analysis, mapping, risk analysis of soil pollutants and deficiencies in crop nutrients. She has published many academic papers, co-authored three books and edited two books. She has been Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Soil Science and of the updating of the Encyclopedia of Soils in the Environment. She is an honorary fellow of the British Society of Soil Science.
Eric Brevik is Dean and Professor of Soils and Geology at Southern Illinois Univ. His bachelor’s and master’s degrees in geology are from the University of North Dakota and Ph.D. in soil science from Iowa St Univ. His research interests include human impacts on soil, soil education, soils and human health, and soil history. He has authored over 180 articles, served as an officer of SSSA, IUSS, and EGU, and served on multiple editorial boards. He is a Fellow of SSSA.
