ESG targets: What are our companies sustainability, social, and responsible governance targets?.
SP Ventures’ ESG and Impact targets are structured around a common ambition for the portfolio, while recognizing that specific sustainability and impact KPIs need to reflect each company’s business model, stage of development and impact pathway. Rather than imposing identical quantitative targets across all investees, we establish portfolio-wide objectives and work with each company to translate them into relevant, measurable indicators. Our primary sustainability and impact objective is to contribute to greater climate resilience and food security in Latin America by investing in technologies that enable agriculture to produce more efficiently, sustainably and resiliently under increasing climate pressure. This includes solutions that improve resource efficiency, reduce the use of fertilizers, chemicals, water and other inputs, support soil health and regenerative practices, mitigate or avoid emissions, and help farmers adapt to extreme weather. Our Theory of Change therefore tracks outcomes such as farmers reached, hectares impacted, access to climate-smart technologies, input reductions, emissions avoided and improvements in agricultural resilience and productivity. SP Ventures’ long-term ambition is to contribute to a more resilient, low-carbon and inclusive agricultural system, with more stable livelihoods, healthier ecosystems and stronger food security across the region. A critical social objective within this strategy is the inclusion of small- and medium-scale farmers in the transition toward more sustainable agriculture. These producers often face greater climate vulnerability while having more limited access to credit, insurance, technology and technical knowledge. We therefore actively seek technologies and business models that democratize access to financial services, innovative inputs, information and climate-smart solutions, allowing farmers to adopt new technologies, improve productivity and strengthen their economic and climate resilience. We also target greater efficiency, transparency and resilience across food and agricultural value chains. This includes technologies that reduce unnecessary intermediaries and transaction costs, prevent food and resource losses, improve logistics and market access, and increase traceability and transparency across the supply chain. Together, these pathways support our broader objective of improving food-system productivity without proportionally increasing its environmental footprint. Our investment and impact priorities are particularly aligned with SDG 2 – Zero Hunger, SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production, and SDG 13 – Climate Action. From a responsible governance and ESG management perspective, our objective is for portfolio companies to continuously increase their ESG maturity as they scale. Every investee follows an ESG & Impact journey developed by SP Ventures, beginning with ESG Due Diligence and continuing throughout the investment period. We work directly with founders and management teams on the adoption of appropriate internal policies and governance practices; socio-environmental risk identification and mitigation; ESG, diversity and impact KPI collection; company-specific impact mapping and Theory of Change development; and, as companies mature, ESG & Impact disclosure and reporting supported by stronger governance and data-quality processes. Our ESG maturity framework evaluates companies across governance, management, impact alignment and disclosure, with the ambition of progressively moving the portfolio toward High or Reference levels of ESG maturity. In AgVentures II, for example, 100% of companies have already evolved in SP Ventures’ ESG maturity ranking, more than 120 internal policies have been developed, 88% have socio-environmental risk assessments and mitigation plans, and more than 100 positive impacts have been mapped. Finally, we see SP Ventures’ role as extending beyond our own portfolio. We aim to be a disseminator of ESG, Impact and responsible investment knowledge throughout the Latin American venture capital and AgFoodTech ecosystem. We share tools, lessons learned and best practices across portfolio companies, participate in international and regional impact and climate networks, and regularly publish articles on ESG, impact, climate resilience, food security and the transition toward more sustainable food systems. We also invest in continuous capacity building for our own investment team so that ESG and Impact considerations are progressively embedded throughout the investment lifecycle. In 2025 alone, our participation in industry events, panels, networks and ecosystem initiatives reached more than 40,000 people, reinforcing this broader knowledge-sharing and ecosystem-development ambition.
