Rainstick presents an innovative solution to the global agricultural challenge by combining ancient Indigenous wisdom with cutting edge technology. We use electricity to stimulate seeds to grow bigger and faster, leading to bigger crop yields. Our approach sustainably addresses the need for food security and food variety working as an alternative to chemical treatments or an enhancement to other interventions.
Our story begins 30,000 years ago with the Maiawali First Nations people who would use a ‘chugerra’ (rainstick) to influence and work with storm systems for food cultivation. Rainstick expands on this practice with our proprietary Variable Electric Field technology (VEFt) that uses electricity to mimic the effects of lightning to trigger biological changes in plants, resulting in accelerated growth and increased yield requiring minimal infrastructure and no on-farm changes.

Rainstick has secured USD$755k in investment from Bandera Capital, Main Sequence Ventures, Startmate, and Better Bite VC. Main Sequence Ventures, focused on sustainable solutions to feed a growing global population, sees Rainstick’s electric field technology (VEFt) as a viable alternative to chemicals and crop modification. They are leading testing of market models and supporting further investment, positioning Rainstick as a model for commercialising agricultural IP across universities.
Rio Tinto Ventures have invested a USD$315K safe note in March 2025 participating in the Rio Tinto Founders Factory accelerator program. With a focus on improved seed germination for mining restoration work.
Rainstick has also been successful in securing grant funding from Ignite Spark Queensland USD$47k, Rise India CSIRO Accelerator USD$47k and Industry Growth Program USD$157k
