FAO – IFA Webinar Fertigation – A Tool to Simultaneously Improve Water and Nutrient Use Efficiency

FAO and the International Fertilizer Association (IFA) hosted the webinar “Fertigation – A tool to simultaneously improve water and nutrient use efficiency”, as part of the new series focused on sustainable plant nutrition. Following a successful first event on microbials, this webinar focused on fertigation, a technique that entails applying liquid or water-soluble fertilizer to plants through irrigation systems. By simultaneously supplying plants with their daily water and nutrient needs, fertigation has proven an effective tool to sustainably grow more food in a changing climate or water-stressed areas, and substantially increase water and nutrient use efficiency. Our speakers Munir Rusan (Jordan University of Science and Technology), Dubi Raz (Netafim) and Katja Hora (SQM) lent their academic and technical expertise to this discussion, focusing on best management practices and innovations in micro-irrigation and water-soluble fertilizers. The FAO-IFA “Sustainable Plant Nutrition Webinar Series” is open to anyone wishing to understand the recent evolutions in plant nutrition: from new products entering the market, to the technologies and tools that are helping to increase nutrient use efficiency from cropping systems all over the world.
