Excellence in Agronomy Initiative & Africa
Webinar focusing on the future of sub-Saharan Africa (SSA)’s agricultural systems, with guest speakers Bernard Vanlauwe (IITA), Kazuki Saito (AfricaRice), Lulseged Desta (Alliance Bioversity-CIAT) and Keith Shepherd (iSDA-ICRAF). Drawing upon their recently published article “Sustainable intensification of agriculture in sub-Saharan Africa: first things first” and their extensive experience with smallholders in Africa and other regions, Dr. Vanlauwe and Dr. Dobermann will identify key learnings to sustainably intensify Africa’s farming systems. They will introduce the new Excellence in Agronomy 2030 initiative (EiA), which seeks to accelerate progress in tailoring and delivering nutrients and other agronomic solutions to smallholder farmers in Africa and other world regions. They will also discuss opportunities for public-private partnerships in scaling up agronomic interventions.
