The Impact Of Potassium Limitation On Crop Yields

Potassium is vital for resilient, high-yield agriculture. In this episode, Walter Carciochi, Research Assistant Professor at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and Dr Patricio Grassini, the university’s Sunkist Distinguished Professor in Agronomy, join IFA Chief Scientist, Achim Dobermann, to discuss findings from a new global study on potassium limitation. The conversation covers yield losses, key regions of deficiency, practical solutions to close potassium gaps and why balanced fertilization is critical for long‑term productivity and sustainability.

About the guest speakers

Walter Carciochi is a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. A PhD graduate of Argentina’s National University of Mar del Plata, he researches nutrient cycling and fertilizer management to boost crop performance and grain quality while minimizing environmental impact, and now leads global work on potassium limitations.
Dr Patricio Grassini, Sunkist Distinguished Professor in Agronomy at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, ranks among the world’s most cited agronomists. His research spans yield potential, productivity gaps, and resource use efficiency across diverse cropping systems in the Americas and Asia, informing industry, policymakers, and smallholder initiatives for sustainable growth.
