IFA launches first Science Innovation Award

Paris, France, December 16, 2024

The International Fertilizer Association (IFA) is pleased to announce the launch of the IFA Science Innovation Award, a new initiative designed to encourage scientists and entrepreneurs to transform research into practical solutions that support measurable improvements in the field of plant nutrition.

As part of IFA’s new Innovation & Startup program, this Award addresses the challenge of moving scientific discoveries out of the lab and into the field. Many promising ideas remain underutilized, which limits their potential to create meaningful and lasting change. The new Award will recognize individuals and teams who have successfully applied their innovations to address real-world agricultural needs.

Celebrating Innovation at IFA Cultivating Tomorrow 2025

The inaugural Award will be presented at the IFA Cultivating Tomorrow Conference in April 2025. The winner will receive:

  • A cash prize
  • An invitation to present their work at an industry conference
  • Recognition with a custom-designed trophy

“Our goal is to inspire and reward those who bring science to life, addressing critical challenges in agriculture,”

said Alzbeta Klein, CEO/Director General of IFA.

“Innovation is essential for building a sustainable and resilient future for farming communities worldwide.”

Patrick Heffer, IFA Deputy Director General, added:

“This Award is about taking ideas off the drawing board and into action. We’re looking for people who are already making a difference and showing what’s possible when science meets real-world challenges.”

Eligibility and how to apply

The award is open to scientists, entrepreneurs and innovators who research into practical applications in agriculture. Submissions must highlight originality, impact, sustainability and feasibility. Detailed eligibility criteria, application guidelines and deadlines can be found at IFA Science and Innovation Award.
