About the Role

The International Fertilizer Association (IFA) is seeking an experienced Head of Communications to lead our global communications, media relations, and digital strategy. This is a hands-on communications leadership role that combines strategic oversight with daily execution across digital, social and traditional channels.

IFA represents the global fertilizer and plant nutrition industry and plays a critical role in food security, sustainable agriculture, and the energy transition.

This role is based in London or Paris with occasional international travel.

Key Responsibilities

Lead IFA’s global communications strategy, brand positioning and narrative development.

  • Manage media relations: press engagement, journalist outreach, op-eds, statements, message development.
  • Own IFA’s digital communications and social media channels, especially LinkedIn and YouTube.
  • Produce high-quality content: articles, speeches, newsletters, web copy, social posts, thought leadership.
  • Oversee development of new media formats: podcasts, video content, webinars or YouTube presence.
  • Manage a small communications team (2–4 people) and external agencies.
  • Provide communications support to the CEO and senior leadership, including talking points and briefing materials.
  • Monitor industry trends, measure communications performance and report analytics.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • 8–10+ years in communications, PR, media, digital communications or corporate affairs.
  • Proven experience in media relations, content creation, digital communications, and social media strategy.
  • Native-level English with outstanding writing and editing skills.
  • Hands-on experience managing LinkedIn or other corporate social media channels.
  • Strong background in content production, including writing press releases, speeches, articles, and digital posts.
  • Experience working in international organizations, global associations, sustainability, agriculture, energy, or food systems.
  • Ability to communicate complex or technical topics clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Experience managing small teams and working with agencies or freelancers.
  • Confident using analytics, digital tools, and AI-assisted content workflows.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in sustainability communications, agriculture, climate, food systems, or energy transition.
  • Background in corporate communications, public affairs, or international development.
  • Experience with podcast production, video scripting, or multimedia storytelling.
  • Familiarity with design tools (Canva, Adobe Suite, etc).
  • Additional languages are an asset.

  • Launch of a new podcast, video series, or other modern media format.
  • Stronger media relationships in key regions and sectors.
