IFA Technical Recommendations
Method Harmonization Working Group
With the acceleration of global fertilizer trade, IFA’s diverse membership has experienced an increasing number of contractual disputes due to the variable use of methods and procedures to sample and analyze international product shipments.
In a member-driven initiative, a working group was formed to address this matter in 2010. The working group consists of around 15 top fertilizer chemists from key global producers, traders, inspection companies and laboratories who meet several times a year to discuss, coordinate, and plan working group actions. The objective is to compile and review fertilizer standards and publish "best practice" recommendations on the sampling and laboratory analysis that are made publicly available for the global fertilizer industry. The working group also liaises with international normalization bodies to assist in overcoming these obstacles and promote the harmonization of global fertilizer laboratory procedures.
For more information about the Method Harmonization working group work program and future meetings, as well as to suggest topics please contact the IFA Secretariat.
Fertilizer Sampling and Analysis Recommandations
Below is a list of best practice recommendations published by the IFA working group. These guidelines should be considered reference documents for the international trade of fertilizer products. They should not be considered to be international standards nor should they take precedence over existing national and regional regulations or standards.
