International Technical & Safety, Health, Environment Analyst (Fertilizer Industry)

Position Overview

The International Fertilizer Association (IFA) is creating a new position to support the work of its Technical & SHE (Safety, Health, Environment) Committee.

This Committee is composed of member companies’ executives from across the fertilizer value chain who work to promote sustainable fertilizer and raw materials production, product stewardship, site-specific environmental management and manufacturing-related benchmarking across the major nutrients.

The Technical & SHE Analyst position is based at the IFA headquarters in Paris, France, and will report to the Committee’s Director. The Analyst will actively communicate with specialists of member companies located around the world and will collaborate as needed with the Association’s other Committees and Services.

Main Duties

Under the supervision of the IFA’s Technical & SHE Committee Director, the Analyst will assist with several supporting tasks, including the development of new services for the IFA membership and the expansion of its stakeholder outreach activities.

The Technical & SHE Analyst will be involved in the management and coordination of the Committee’s work program, including:

  • Providing technical assistance and project management support for its working groups and task forces, as well as the IFA’s certification and benchmarking efforts.
  • Writing about plant safety, occupational health and production-related environmental issues for the IFA’s internal and external publications.
  • Contributing technical knowledge to the IFA’s advocacy efforts with focus on fertilizer production/ manufacturing/mining and attending stakeholder meetings to represent this industry and/or the Association as necessary.
  • Responding to ad-hoc technical inquiries and conducting customized technical research as required.
  • Monitoring key Technical & SHE policy developments at a global level.

Qualifications Required

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant professional experience. Knowledge of fertilizer and SHE production matters is a plus.
  • Degree in chemical/metallurgical/process engineering preferred.
  • Ability to learn and understand industrial processes and technical issues.
  • Proven project management skills (i.e. ability to support working groups and task forces).
  • Fluent in English (the working language of the IFA). Speaking French and other languages is an advantage.
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to express yourself in public.
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work in an international and multi-cultural context.
  • Knowledge of and interest in international matters.
  • Ability to travel internationally a few times a year.

Demand Analyst (Special Fertilizer Products)

Position Overview

The International Fertilizer Association (IFA) is looking for a dynamic individual to support the implementation of IFA’s strategy in relation to special fertilizer products* .

This position is part of the Agriculture Service of IFA, which manages the Agriculture Committee of the Association. The Committee is composed of IFA members and its mission is to promote sustainable fertilizer management, conduct authoritative market analysis related to fertilizer demand, and monitor policy, scientific and other developments that may impact present and future fertilizer demand.

The Analyst reports to the Senior Director of the Agriculture Service and will work in close cooperation with the other two colleagues of the Service, as well as with the other services.

The Analyst will be based at IFA’s offices in Paris.

Main Duties

Under the supervision of the Senior Director of the Agriculture Service, the Analyst will:

  • Manage IFA’s annual assessment of global and regional demand for special products.
  • Develop and monitor some key indicators for special products: area planted to fruits and vegetables, area under precision irrigation, area under greenhouses, etc.
  • Monitor policy developments relative to special products in the key consuming markets.
  • Help implementing the work programme of the IFA Working Group on Plant Nutrition Products.
  • Help developing the technical content of IFA’s communication on special products.
  • Help shaping the programme of conferences/sessions on special products organized/co-organized by IFA.
  • Help developing the programme of an annual training on the production of special products.
  • Help monitoring projects on agronomic biofortification co-sponsored by IFA.
  • Help implementing other activities of the Agriculture Service in relation to fertilizer demand analysis, nutrient stewardship, innovation, and plant nutrition solutions as required.
  • Participate in relevant initiatives and meetings and represent the industry as required.

Qualifications Required

  • Advanced degree (Master or equivalent) in agriculture/agronomy, business or economics.
  • Knowledge of crop nutrition and special products is an advantage.
  • 2 to 5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Fluent in English (English is the working language of IFA). Speaking French and other IFA languages (Spanish, Russian, Chinese) is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to build a network and to collect information using the network (through telephone interviews, surveys, etc.).
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects.
  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work in an international and multi-cultural context.
  • Knowledge of and interest in international matters.
  • Ability to travel internationally a few times a year.
