IFA Production and International Trade Conference on "Growth through Innovation: Evolving Fertilizer Markets", Tampa, Florida, 21-23 September 2015
New fertilizer products are being developed to better meet farmers’ needs and soil-crop conditions. In recent years, commodity fertilizers have evolved toward customized enhanced products, gaining strong adoption in regional markets. What are the drivers and challenges in these evolving markets? Growing nutrient demand calls for adequate supply of fertilizers: What are the emerging constraints and opportunities in supplying fertilizers and their basic raw materials? What is the reality of phosphate supply: scarcity or adequacy?
Fertilizer capacity is being expanded in the nitrogen and potash segments, with potential implications to trade and domestic sourcing; however, what is the probability of these developments: long-term prospects or medium-term realizations? In the near term, three large fertilizer producing and consuming countries will see significant structural developments within their respective domestic industry; how these changes will impact fertilizer markets in China, India and the United States: shifting balances or rising self-reliance?
