This multilingual glossary - in English, French, German and Spanish - was originally prepared by a group of experts brought together for the purpose in the early 1980s by the Agricultural Committee of IFA.

Terms and expressions are included mainly on the basis of their importance in the field of fertilizer usage, with a few relating to soil science, fertilizer manufacture and analysis, application machinery and methods.

In languages that use an alphabet, the terms are arranged in alphabetical order, with a brief definition and with cross references, whenever possible, to the nearest equivalent in the other three languages.
