Paris, France: 30 June 2011 – William J. Doyle, President and CEO of Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. (PotashCorp), was elected President of the International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA) during IFA’s Annual Conference that took place in Montreal from 23 to 25 May. Mr. Doyle succeeds Mr. Ajay Shriram, Chairman and Senior Managing Director of DCM Shriram Consolidated Ltd, who will remain a member of the Executive Management Group of the Association as Immediate Past President.

William J. Doyle has been President and CEO of Potash Corp since 1999, after 12 years as a key member of the PotashCorp senior management team. He has served on the company’s Board of Directors since the company was first listed on the Toronto and New York stock exchanges in 1989. Mr. Doyle has been a member of IFA’s Executive Management Group since 2006. He has assumed various responsibilities including serving as the first Vice President for Sustainable Development before becoming President. PotashCorp is one of the world’s largest fertilizer companies, headquartered in Saskatoon, Canada and producing all three main nutrients (NPK) at production sites in Canada, the United States and Trinidad. PotashCorp has been an engaged member of the International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA) with many company representatives active in the Association’s committees. |
Mr. Doyle is a 37-year veteran of the fertilizer industry and began his career with International Minerals and Chemical Corporation. In addition to his work with PotashCorp, he is on the boards of Canpotex Limited, The Fertilizer Institute, the International Plant Nutrition Institute and Georgetown University. He is also a member of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives.
In his different responsibilities in the Association and in his own company, Mr. Doyle has been a strong advocate of the key role of fertilizers in improving food security. “Mineral fertilizers are a key tool in the continuing battle to end global chronic hunger and malnutrition”, said Mr Doyle. The fertilizer industry has been investing massively since 2007/08 in additional production capacity to respond to the growing worldwide demand for plant nutrients.
Mr Doyle has been one of the industry’s leaders in promoting safety initiatives. “Safety is my company’s - and the entire industry’s - number one priority. One of the main areas of focus during my presidency at IFA will be on raising the importance of safety among the members because our first responsibility is to ensure the safety of the great people who come to work every day for our industry,” said Mr. Doyle upon being elected.
The International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA) is a trade association representing the global fertilizer industry. IFA member companies represent all activities related to the production and distribution of every type of fertilizer, their raw materials and intermediates. IFA’s membership also includes organizations involved in agronomic research and training. IFA has some 525 members in about 85 countries. The global fertilizer industry produces some 170 million tons of fertilizer nutrients annually. These are used in every corner of the globe to support sustainable agricultural production and food security.
