The market for enhanced-efficiency fertilizers (EEFs) develops at sustained pace. Traditionally, these products have mainly been applied to specialty crops. However, slow- and controlled-release fertilizers increase progressively their market share in the broadacre crop sector (rice in Japan and more recently, corn in the USA and rice in China). How is the EEF market expected to evolve in the medium- to long-term? What will be the key drivers of the EEF market: product development, economics or policy environment?

In 2005, the International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA) organized an international workshop on EEFs. This was the first international industry event entirely dedicated to EEFs. Five years later, it is time to update our knowledge in the field of research and development, agronomic and environmental benefits, economics of EEF use, policy and regulatory framework, current market and outlook. In this connection, IFA and New Ag International have agreed to join forces and co-organize a one and a half-day conference on EEFs, on 23-24 March 2010 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Miami downtown, in conjunction with the 8^th New Ag International conference.

The conference programme will start at 10am on 23 March and end at noon on 24 March. It will feature a total of 22 presentations from the industry, academic and policy/regulatory sides. The advanced programme will be published in the first half of January 2010.

Held on the occasion of the IFA Annual General Meeting during which the Association's officers convene, IFA's main event attracts on average 1300 participants representing 325 member companies from 75 countries. It has become a major meeting platform for the global fertilizer industry and is on the agenda of its chief executives and senior management representatives.

Underpinning the Association’s work programme carried out through its various committees, IFA conferences and meetings offer rich opportunities for members to exchange views on a number of key issues facing the fertilizer industry. Conferences are financed by participating members through their delegates’ contributions to the organizational costs of each event and occasionally, through event sponsorship. Through its conferences, IFA strives to provide the right setting for its members to engage in networking and enhance their business contacts. Our goal is to provide quality programming in an atmosphere conducive to exchange within carefully selected facilities.

In pursuing this objective, we are dedicated to:

Focusing on the pivotal Asian region and Pacific basin, IFA's Crossroads Asia-Pacific is an extremely popular event, with some 300 participants in attendance.This event is organized under the guidance of the Regional Vice Presidents for all members with an interest in Asia and the Pacific as well as newcomers acquainting themselves with the Association in view of potential membership.
